"FRIENDS," of the 5th Tennessee! |
"E" Company - 5th Regiment Tennessee Infantry existed during the conflict known as the "War for Southern Independence." Remnants, of the 5th Tennessee, consolidated with other Units, of the Army of Tennessee, were surrendered and complying with Orders, received from their Commanders, began the long march home and into History. "E" Company was re-activated and an attempt was begun, to preserve the History, of the 5th Regiment Tennessee Infantry, and Honour these Noble individuals. Of the individuals, re-activating the 5th Tennessee, few remain active participants. The majority, of "E" Company membership are newly recruited with twelve (12) or fewer years participation. During the period, of modern existence, "E" Company membership, has developed a friendship with individuals who actively participate, in this hobby, as SUTLERS, or businesses supplying authentic reproductions, of weapons, accoutrements and clothing for the soldier and civilian of the War for Southern Independence era. 'Sutlers' travel, to event sites, where they erect their tent and display their wares. The re-enactor truly depends upon the 'sutlers' for from event to event, needed items are consumed, wear-out, lost, or forgotten, and the 'sutler' is there to save the day. "E" Company membership has developed a friendship with individuals who, although not actively participating, in re-enacting, stand ready, to supply us with items not available through Sutlers. In these instances, we turn to friends, in the business world, where we are readily and honourably supplied. No attempt shall be made, to list, every Sutler participating in our hobby, for that would be akin, to an insurmountable task. A large percentage, of active sutlers, we have never had the pleasure, of meeting and doing business with. We shall list herein, those with whom "E" Company has satisfactorily dealt, and whose wares are era acceptable. Friendships develop between re-enactors and as we join together and rekindle our friendship around the campfire, so it is with our Sutler friends. Whether we need re-supplying or not, it is always a pleasure, to renew friendship with our sutler, 'Band of Brothers.' We, the membership, of "E" Company, respectfully request, at your next event, or during your travels, you visit our Sutler friends, and enjoy their hospitality, and when in need of supplies, please patronize their business. We receive, and will accept no gratuity, from those listed herein, save a smile, handshake, hug or drink, of iced water, sweet tea or coffee. We thank you for your courtesies extended to our Friends! |
